There are no easy answers in shelter.  But, are you asking the right questions?

Managing the implementation of shelter programmes is a fundamental part of any humanitarian response. Even if managers and coordinators are not responsible for the technical delivery of a programme, they need to identify the scope of shelter programming and understand the standards used in order to make informed decisions.

Suitable for:

Managers/Coordinators who have responsibilty for programmes that include shelter. Also decision makers within donor organisations that fund shelter projects. It will also be relevant for any personnel with humanitarian experience looking to further their understanding of shelter programming in emergencies.

Course covers:

The workshop will provide an overview of the shelter sector, identifying the breadth of issues in the sector, including principles and common practices.

This is a participatory workshop, and it is envisaged that a range of organisations will be present providing various points of reference and experiences.

The workshop will explore and address:

  • The fundamentals of shelter programming and links with other sectors
  • The current challenges facing the shelter sector
  • The main standards and protocols that affect shelter programmes
  • The types of issues affecting shelter managers
  • Different organisational models for running shelter programmes.
