Source: IRIN Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from conflict-hit areas in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) have been experiencing increased hardship as temperatures drop to freezing in many northern regions, IDPs have told IRIN.
More than two months after the Pakistani military launched an offensive in the Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan, humanitarian aid organizations are only now gaining access to the estimated 430,000 people who have fled the fighting in the region. An earlier military offensive centered in the Swat Valley and surrounding areas uprooted some four million people and triggered a major humanitarian crisis.

World Vision Middle East/Eastern Europe/ Central Asia office As conflict forces thousands of people to flee South Waziristan to neighbouring districts, World Vision, in partnership with the Church World Service provided more than 6,500 people (900 families) in Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan) with emergency relief items this week. Relief items included 900 hygiene kits, 900 family kits and 2,700 blankets. World Vision plans to provide relief aid to some 10,000 families displaced due to conflict between government forces and Taliban militants.
